Nation's drug czar to outline drug policy reform Apr 24th 2013, 12:42 Published April 24, 2013 Associated Press The nation's drug czar will outline drug policy reforms that will emphasize public health to fight addiction and focus on diverting non-violent drug offenders into treatment instead of prisons. Gil Kerlikowske, director of the National Drug Control Policy, is scheduled to release President Barack Obama's 2013 blueprint for drug policy on Wednesday at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore. Kerlikowske said in an interview Tuesday that millions of Americans who have not had access to drug treatment will be able to get it under federal health care reform. He says many criminal justice experts recognize the nation can't arrest its way out of the problem of drug addiction. | |
