Pentagon wants more money for Israel's Iron Dome Mar 27th 2012, 18:12 The U.S. Defense Department says it will ask Congress for more money for Israel's anti-rocket system known as the "Iron Dome." In a statement released Tuesday, Pentagon press secretary George Little said the system to defend against short-range rockets and mortar attacks has been critical in recent weeks when nearly 300 rockets were fired at southern Israel from Gaza. The Iron Dome system intercepted more than 80 percent of the targets. Little said the Pentagon and Israel have discussed U.S. support for buying additional Iron Dome systems and will ask Congress for money. The Iron Dome system received $205 million in 2011. The current budget has no money for the program. | |
