White House threatens veto of cybersecurity bill Apr 25th 2012, 20:22 The Obama administration says it strongly opposes a House bill designed to defend critical U.S. industries and corporate networks from electronic attacks and intrusions by foreign governments, cybercriminals and terrorist groups. In a statement Wednesday, the administration said the bill fails to ensure that the nation's core critical infrastructure is protected while repealing provisions of electronic surveillance law without concerns for privacy and civil liberties safeguards. The statement said that if the bill were presented to the president in its current form, his senior advisers would recommend a veto. The GOP-controlled House is scheduled to begin consideration of the bill on Thursday and vote on the measure Friday. Proponents said they have the votes to pass the measure. Its prospects in the Senate are uncertain. | |
