As thousands converge on Charlotte, N.C., on Tuesday for the first day of the Democratic convention, officials say security in and around the site is running smoothly and that there are few arrests to report.
At least one person was handcuffed Monday when protesters began an unauthorized march and sat down blocking an intersection near the convention site.
The group of about 200 protesters was intentionally heading outside of a designated parade route and didn't have a permit to march. They had only made it a couple of blocks from a city park where they were gathered when hundreds of officers arrived.
Officers made a barricade of mountain bikes to stop the march's progress, surrounded the group and attempted to corral them into an area near the park designated for protester speeches.
A protester who crossed the barricade was put in handcuffs by officers. The protester had identified himself to a reporter as a veteran named John Pendly earlier in the march.
A group of 25 to 30 protesters sat in the intersection and was also surrounded by officers. Police in riot gear began arriving to supplement an initial wave of plainclothes officers.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police spokesman Rob Tufano told FoxNews.com that authorities on Sunday arrested a female demonstrator who he said was wearing a mask and carrying a knife. Tufano said police also arrested a "visibly drunk" man who had allegedly assaulted a police officer earlier in the week.
Tufano had no comment on a California delegate who was ousted from the convention over the weekend after he allegedly tried to impersonate a member of Congress. Tufano said there was "no department report" on the man, whose name has not been released. He was not arrested, Tufano said.
FoxNews.com's Cristina Corbin and the Associated Press contributed to this report.
