A senior administration official says President Obama will meet privately with Burma democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi at the White House on Wednesday.

Suu Kyi is on a 17-day trip to the U.S. The Nobel Peace laureate spent 15 years under house arrest for opposing military rule in the Asian country.

Burma has opened up over the past two years since Suu Kyi's release. As a result, the U.S. normalized diplomatic relations with Burma and in July allowed U.S. companies to start investing there again.

The official requested anonymity in order to discuss the meeting before it was announced publicly.
