TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –  The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an investigation of alleged fraud involving a company hired to register voters by the state's Republican Party.

The agency began investigating Strategic Allied Consulting on Wednesday after receiving a complaint from the Florida Division of Elections about suspicious forms submitted in several counties. The agency said it wouldn't comment until the investigation is complete.

The Republican Party of Florida fired the company after reports that suspicious forms were being turned in. The party paid Strategic Allied Consulting $1.3 million.

State parties in North Carolina and Virginia also have fired the company, which was hired by Republicans in several presidential battleground states to register voters.

The company spokesman said it will cooperate with the investigation and blamed problems on employees not following rules.
