May 17, 2013: Ousted IRS chief Steven Miller, right, testifies on Capitol Hill in Washington, Friday, May 17,2013, before the House Ways and Means Committee hearing on the extra scrutiny the IRS gave Tea Party and other conservative groups that applied for tax-exempt status.AP

Questioning during a House Ways and Means Committee hearing revealed that a pro-life group applying for a 501(c)(3) may have been asked by the Internal Revenue Service to detail the content of their prayers, the Washington Examiner reported.

During his grilling of outgoing IRS commissioner Steven Miller, Rep. Aaron Schock, R-Ill., made reference to a report by the Thomas More Society -- a national public interest law firm for religious liberty -- which details the possible targeting of the Coalition for Life of Iowa.

Schock said the question, "Please detail the content of the members of your organization's prayers," had been asked by the IRS to the pro-life group.

"Would that be an inappropriate question to a 501(c)(3) applicant?" asked Schock. "The content of one's prayers?"

Miller's answer was inconclusive, "It pains me to say I can't speak to that one either."

Upon further questioning from Schock, Miller argued that it would "surprise him" if that question was asked, but he would not be drawn into commenting on a specific case.
