| Hagel honors Navy Yard victims Sep 17th 2013, 15:15 Published September 17, 2013 Associated Press Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and other military officials have laid a wreath in honor of those killed at the Washington Navy Yard at the Navy Memorial. Hagel laid the wreath at the memorial along Pennsylvania Avenue on Tuesday. It came just 24 hours after a gunman went on a shooting rampage at the Navy Yard, killing 12 people. Hagel did not offer any comments at the memorial. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Martin Dempsey joined Hagel for the wreath laying, along with Washington Mayor Vincent Gray. The wreath was placed next to "The Lone Sailor" statue, which represents "all people who have ever served, are serving now, or are yet to serve in the United States Navy." A service member played "Taps" and military officials saluted. | |
