June 20: Pro-Syrian regime protesters shout President Bashar Assad slogans after he delivered a speech, in Damascus, Syria.AP

A recruiting website for the Marines was tampered with and redirected to show a pro-Assad message Monday, but a spokesman says no information was put at risk.

Capt. Eric Flanagan tells Fox News the website was not hacked, but temporarily redirected. He said he could not confirm who was responsible, but the site was redirected to a message from the Syrian Electronic Army.

The hacker group has claimed responsibility for disrupting the New York Times website, Twitter and other media sites the group sees as sympathetic to Syria's rebels.

The message to the Marine Corps was a plea for Americans to fight alongside the Syrian army and not aid the rebels.

President Obama is seeking congressional approval for U.S. military intervention in Syria in response to the suspected August chemical weapons attack on Syrian rebels who are trying to oust Syrian President Bashar Assad from power.
