NEWARK, N.J. – A New Jersey Democratic county chairman says Newark Mayor Cory Booker has told him he's considering running for governor against Chris Christie in 2013.
The chairman, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the county's executive committee hasn't yet been told the news, met with Booker last week. The chairman says Booker requested the meeting, said he is mulling a gubernatorial run and will make a final decision by December.
The chairman says Booker is also telling other county chairs.
Booker disputed that he was disclosing possible plans to county chairs. The development was first reported by politickernj.com.
Booker told WBGO FM's "Newark Today" on Thursday that a possible gubernatorial run was "being asked by me by a lot of folks, and again my response is that those decisions have to wait."
