Sen. Scott Brown just got a promotion, being elevated to the rank of colonel Wednesday by the Army National Guard.
The Massachusetts Republican senator's office announced the promotion late Wednesday afternoon. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., a war veteran, presided over the ceremony.
"As a soldier, I'm privileged to serve alongside the very best men and women our nation has to offer," Brown said in a statement. "Their devotion, service and sacrifice on behalf of our country is unmatched."
He said he'll continue serving in his present role as assistant to the chief counsel in the National Guard Bureau.
Brown joined the Guard in 1979 as an infantryman.
