Axelrod to GOP: At least we're 'unified'
Sep 2nd 2012, 14:44

Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod had a retort Sunday after a week of criticism from Republicans in Tampa -- at least our party's unified.

Or so he claimed in an interview on "Fox News Sunday."

"We don't have the problems that the other party has. We're not divided. We don't have to worry about what people are saying on the side, or about their affection for the president. We don't have those problems. We don't have the reinvention convention," he said. "We're a unified party."

Axelrod was referring to some lingering tension in the GOP, including from some Tea Party groups and Ron Paul supporters who objected to their candidate's treatment by the party brass.

Republicans also endured a bitter primary season which saw multiple candidates challenge Romney for the lead. But with Romney anointed as the victor at last week's convention, most of his former GOP rivals were in attendance, and voicing support for the candidate.

Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich, both ex-rivals, spoke at the convention. Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain, among others, were also there.

Axelrod called the convention a "terrible failure," claiming Romney did not offer "real ideas" for the country.
