The chairman of the Democratic National Convention said Sunday that "Reagan would be turning in his grave" over the speeches delivered this past week at the Republicans' convention in Tampa.
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa did not explain what exactly he thought would have offended the late president -- but the comment came after he slammed Republicans' tax cut plan as "voodoo economics" and after he complained about parts of the GOP platform, including the section on abortion.
"It looks like the platform of 1812," he said, calling it "from another century."
The remark echoes what President Obama said on the stump Saturday in Iowa, where he claimed Republicans are retreating to policies from the "last century."
Romney, though, hammered the president in Ohio, saying at a competing campaign stop that Obama has failed on the jobs front.
"One of the promises that he made was that he was going to create more jobs and today 23 million people are out of work or stopped working for look or under employed," Romney told a cheering crowd in Cincinnati.
"Let me tell you, if you have a coach that is zero, and 23 million, you say it's time to get a new coach," he said. "It's time for America to see a winning season again and we're going to bring it to them."
